Best Buy goes on deal-offering frenzy

Best Buy is known for hosting trade-in deals on single items and devices, but now the big box retailer is announcing that it's offering deals on a whole host of tech gadgets -- from mobile devices to tablets to accessories.
Starting Friday and going through Sunday, Best Buy will double the trade-in value of most mobile devices. What this means is that anybody eligible for an upgrade can bring in their working non-cracked cell phone and the retailer will give them double the phone's value to buy a new smartphone with a two-year contract from Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint.
Other mobile offers include the opportunity to pre-order the 16 GB Motorola X on Verizon and receiving $100 off Apple's 32GB iPhone 5 through the month of August with a two-year contract on Sprint.
Best Buy is also doling out deals on tablets. On Friday and Saturday, customers can get a guaranteed $50 trade-in value for a working first-generation Google Nexus 7 and Nexus 10tablets. People can also save $100 on all models of the Microsoft Surface Pro tablet and be some of the first buyers of the $239 Insignia Flex tablet, which launched exclusively at Best Buy this week.
The retailer is also giving special offers to students. Starting August 11, any student who registers at Best Buy with an .edu e-mail address can get $100 off Apple MacBooks, $200 off the 13.3" Lenovo Yoga Convertible Ultrabook, 20 percent off Speck smartphone cases, and more. The back-to-school sales last through September 14.
Best Buy has hosted a handful of sales this summer. In June, it offered two separate iPhone-specific trade-in sales; and in July, it gave customers $200 off of MacBooks and also offered aniPad trade-in promotion. These deals seem to prove popular with Best Buy consumers. The company revealed that it saw the single biggest day for its trade-in business during the June iPhone promotion.
