If earlier rumours are to be believed, Samsung has been working on an 8-inch tablet to be released around September of this year. And now Dutch website TechTastic has got hold of GLBenchmark results for a new Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 with the model number SM-T311. According to the benchmark scores, the new tablet will have an 8-inch display and could be the tablet that Samsung is betting to go up against the iPad mini and the new Nexus 7.
Based on the benchmark scores, the Tab 3 8.0 has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, which sounds halfway decent but nothing scintillating like the Exynos 5 Octa or even the quad-core processor used in the Galaxy Note 8.0. In addition, the rumour says the next-gen Mali GPU will take care of graphics processing. The source also speculates that the new tablet will have 2GB of RAM and an ample 4500 mAh battery.
Unfortunately, the resolution of the display leaves a lot to be desired. While the 1280 x 800 resolution sounds decent, it seems lacking considering that smartphones these days come with full HD resolution, especially when the next-gen iPad mini and Nexus 7 are expected to come with full HD displays as well. As a bonus on the software side, the Tab 3 8.0 will ship with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung’s familiar TouchWiz overlay running on top.
